Washrooms At Priory Shopping Centre

Interfix applied its expertise in washroom design and refurbishment to enable a successful rebrand of a Kent shopping centre.

Priory Shopping Centre in Dartford had suffered a decrease in visitor numbers and was looking to improve its image and appearance. Among a wide-range of improvements carried out to help increase and retain customer footfall was the refurbishment of the centre’s gents, ladies and disabled washrooms. Its baby-changing facility also required upgrading.

In conjunction with the client, Interfix’s technical support team helped specify the scope of works required for the refurbishment as well as product types and quantities.

A modern, energy-efficient design was specified for the washrooms as part of the centre’s hexagon-themed rebrand. Each washroom was stripped of existing materials before refurbishment could begin, with work being carried out in a “live” environment during the site’s normal opening hours.

New flooring suitable for the long-term demands of heavy footfall was installed in each washroom, along with tiles designed in keeping with the rebranded centre’s hexagon theme. In order to create a facility with environmental, as well as smart and durable properties, Interfix provided waterless urinals in the gent’s washroom. In this and all other washroom areas, Xlerator hand dryers were also installed to help reduce the centre’s carbon footprint.

To combat vandalism, solid grade laminate cubicles and duct panels were fitted along with corian vanity units: custom-made by Interfix with a three-degree upturn on the front edge to prevent water run-off and potential flooding issues. The installation of sensor taps and WC flush added an extra modern, hygienic dimension to the washroom areas.

Despite the shopping centre being in-use throughout the refurbishment – a temporary toilet block was installed in the car park whilst washroom areas were renovated – Interfix’s talented installation team completed its quality, cost-effective revamp in just six weeks – ensuring shoppers enjoy stylish and clean sanitary facilities fit for a 21st century retail outlet.
