Interfix delivered a full refurbishment of a shopping centre’s washrooms, ensuring their transformation into smart, comfortable and durable facilities fit for a 21st century retail complex.

The toilets at Weston Favell Shopping Centre in Northampton were in poor condition, dated in appearance and lacking in hot water and a ventilation system. Interfix was selected to design and install new sanitary areas which excelled in terms of safety, long-term efficiency and offered visitors a clean, welcoming environment.

With Interfix’s installers working to an eight-week deadline to complete the refurbishment within a ‘live’ environment – the shopping centre remained in full use throughout the fit-out – initial renovation involved stripping-out the existing toilets and removing all floor tiles. The floors and walls were then re-tiled, thus ensuring the washrooms’ cleaning regime and hygiene standards could be easily maintained.

In addition, existing sanitaryware was replaced in line with the client’s request for facilities comprising hard-wearing material that withstood the rigours of a busy, public environment. Therefore, robust, yet stylish Corian vanity units were installed in the 184m2 washroom area, along with solid grade laminate cubicles. Energy-saving sensor taps were also fitted.

The project included the refurbishment of the washrooms’ 45m2 main approach corridor, involving the installation of a new ceiling, lighting and wall finishes.

Despite the refurbishment being carried out whilst the shopping centre remained open, resulting in the installation and adjusting of hoarding as floor tiling progressed, Interfix were able to complete the fit-out within the strict eight-week deadline to the client’s full satisfaction.

Thanks to the experience and skill of Interfix’s design and installation teams, Weston Favell Shopping Centre has been furnished with a smart, serviceable set of toilets, enhancing the retail experience for the thousands of customers who shop there daily.
